Fishkeeping is widely popular as a hobby all over the world. Some people refer to this hobby as therapeutic due to its calming & relaxing effect on our nervous system. Fishkeeping is also known to be a highly profitable business venture. Betta fish holds a reputation as one of the highly in-demand fish for both business & home decoration purposes. Their enchanting colour combinations & variations often impress buyers & fish lovers.

Betta fish needs a specific living environment where they can freely roam around & explore their surroundings. They suffer from mood swings & they fight with other bettas, so they need to be kept alone in a tank. Those who hesitate to keep fish tanks due to high maintenance can easily keep Betta because it doesn’t require changing the water frequently compared to other popular fishes.

Food plays a vital role in the overall growth & well-being of Betta Fish. In a natural environment, betta generally feeds on small insects. They are carnivores, so they need high protein & fibre to live a healthy life. Like humans, Betta fish needs the proper amount of vitamins to be strong & resilient. There are different types of food for indoor betta fish: pallets, flakes, freeze-dried food, and live & frozen food. It is advisable to feed all of the food mentioned above to supply the proper nutrition.

Flakes are available in the market for different types of fish, so while choosing flakes for betta, one has to be careful to select flakes specially made for betta only. Otherwise, they might reject eating them, considering bettas are fussy eaters. Most of the flakes contain crude protein & fats. One of the famous main ingredients for making betta flakes is Salmon. It satisfies their taste bud and helps to make their colour more vibrant.

Mostly fish keepers prefer giving pellets to their betta because it’s easy to measure the amount of food they are feeding. Another reason for betta fish choosing shots compared to another kind of food is its resemblance to small insects, which is betta’s natural food. The main ingredient for making pellets is dried meat which supplies crude protein essential for Betta’s growth. Sometimes some betta fish find it hard to eat slugs; in that case, smaller pellets are available in the market too.

Freeze-dried foods don’t require to store in the freezer. Dried shrimp & freeze-dried bloodworms are very popular betta food that supplies nutrients & also acts as the perfect replacement for their natural food. Freeze-dried foods lack moisture, so feeding only freeze-dried food can lead to constipation.

Frozen bloodworms can quickly be found near a pet store. They come as a frozen cube or a slab which can be broken into pieces & given to the betta. It must store in freeze to maintain its quality. Choosing the correct type of live food can be a challenge. Fish lovers need to be careful about where they are resourcing live foods for betta fish because they can carry parasites or bacteria, which can be life-threatening for Betta fish. Live foods are the only type that fully resembles their natural food resources. It is both physically & mentally satisfying for betta fish.

Like every living being on earth, eating good food with excellent nutrient value helps betta to enjoy life & stay healthy. So a lot depends on how to fish lovers plan their meal plan for a dear fish friend.
