The international chef Gordon James Ramsay was born on 8 November 1966 in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Scottish by birth, Gordon grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
A premature injury ended his hopes for a promising soccer career, so he returned to college to complete a hotel management course. His dedication and natural talent led him to train with some of the world’s leading chefs, including Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White in London, and Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon in France.
In 1993 Gordon became chef of the Aubergine restaurant in London, which three years later was awarded two Michelin stars. In 1998, at the age of 31, Ramsay established his first fully owned and named restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which quickly received the most prestigious accolade in the world of cuisine – three Michelin stars. Today, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is the London restaurant that has held this award the longest, with Ramsay being one of only four UK chefs to hold those three stars.
Internationally renowned, Gordon has opened a chain of successful restaurants around the world, from Italy to the United States and has nine Michelin stars. The group continues to grow with two companies in Doha, Qatar, which opened in 2012; a total of three restaurants in Las Vegas: the Gordon Ramsay Steak in Paris, the GR Pub and Grill at Caesars Palace and the GR Burger at Planet Hollywood, and the impending opening of the Union Street Café at London’s Borough Market (in association with footballer David Beckham.
Gordon has become a star on the small screen, both in the UK and internationally. International with the UK shows like ‘Gordon Behind Bars ’, ‘Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Cookery Course’, ‘ Gordon’s Great Escape’ and ‘Gordon Ramsay: Shark Bait’ and four top-rated shows on FOX, broadcast in more than 200 countries around the world: ‘Kitchen Nightmares’, ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, ‘Masterchef’ US’ and ‘Hotel Hell’.
He is also an author who has published several books, many of which have become bestsellers around the world, especially his autobiography, ‘Roasting in Hell’s Kitchen.
Gordon has a global partnership with Royal Doulton. He divides his busy time between South London and Los Angeles. He lives with his wife, Tana, their four children, their bulldog Rumpole, and two cats.
