Broccoli is basically a digestive greenish vegetable which belongs to CABBAGE FAMILY. It is also known as a cruciferous plant. Broccoli has a tree-like structure which bears a resemblance to Cauliflower. This healthy plant had been found in Italy more than 2000 years ago. Now, this is listed as one of the healthiest vegetables all over the world.

Broccoli is highly packed with vitamins and minerals and bioactive compounds including fibre, calcium, zinc, potassium, sulphur, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and many more. Studies show that this vegetable is very effective for heart health. It works really well for reducing bad cholesterol and that may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Besides this, we all know that vitamin C is a great antioxidant. As Broccoli contains a decent amount of this particular antioxidant, it helps to protect our cells from any kind of damage. Being rich in Calcium, this plant helps to control blood pressure and build strong bones as well. Ultimately having a chock full of nutrients, Broccoli helps to maintain a healthy diet and it also may improve many threat factors for disease and decrease our probability of cancer. Other than that, it also may help boost eye health. 

The university of the west of Scotland has revealed in research that broccoli can help in the fight against covid.

This effective healthy vegetable can be eaten both raw and cooked. Broccoli can be served in numerous methods, for instance, steamed, boiled, sautéed, or roasted. However, it can also be used raw in salads or with dips. Does everyone love eating this vegetable? The answer is NO because Broccoli contains a compound called GLUCOSINOLATE which makes it bitter in taste. So sometimes the sweet lovers and mostly the children deny eating this vegetable. But it really has a nice mild flavour which attracts vegetarians to consume it.

There is no doubt that Broccoli has several benefits but it is also important to know that those who have thyroid problems should avoid this vegetable as it may interfere with the particular hormone and occur problems who have an iodine deficiency. Broccoli also may cause gas problems. Sometimes it may occur digestive distress to those who have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

In Bangladesh, Broccoli was inaugurated nearly two decades ago. Now it is grown in the winter season in our country as an annual plant. Broccoli farming becomes a windfall for grassroots farmers in PABA of RAJSHAHI. Because by cultivating this non-native variety of vegetables, they are getting more income than before. Besides, Broccoli has also achieved popularity having qualities which may prevent cancer. For the last few years, this seasonal vegetable has popped up in local markets in our country making both sellers and buyers happy. The market price of Broccoli is around 30-45 taka per piece. The farmers and vendors think that there is a bright future for cultivating this seasonal vegetable in our country. It is clearly visible that Broccoli is playing a vital role in the agricultural economy of Bangladesh.
