There was no end to our enthusiasm. We were going to Brahmanbaria. This is the only district we hadn’t visited yet. We would set foot in 64 districts by visiting Brahmanbaria. Another reason was there to be happy. I was going to Brahmanbaria in the month of victory. The role of this district in the history of the liberation war was infinite. We just happily boarded on the bus.
We landed in Nasirnagar upazila. There is Haripur Borobari in Haripur Union, which was built by Zamindar Krishnaprasad Roy Chowdhury in the 18th century. Haripur Borobari is located on the east bank of the river Titas. The house is also known as ‘Haripur Zamindarbari’ or ‘Haripur Rajbari’. I thought the beauty of this house must have overflowed with river Titas is full to the brim. Haripur Borobari is a three-storied house with two domes. Hopefully, the house will be vacated and its lost heritage will be restored. This house has also been used as a shooting spot. In particular, Humayun Ahmed’s film ‘Ghetuputro Komola’ can be mentioned here.
After visiting Rajbari, we went to Brahmanbaria town. There is a beautiful Martyrs Memorial in Farooqi Park of the city. The people of the district now call this place ‘Obokash’. Towards the end of the war of liberation in 1971, a tank of the Pakistan army was destroyed. It was an amphibian tank. After the independence of the country, the freedom fighters removed the tank and brought it to Farooqi Park in the city. Fairs and various events are held here on important days. There are also cradles and slippers for the kids. Many small food shops are available there. We have tasted some fast food items there.
After lunch with puishak and bashpata shutki, we set off for Kollapathor. The Kollapathor region is located near India at the end of Brahmanbaria. The river Salda flows by its side. Many people entered India through this river during the war. We tried several foods there which were popular and experienced historical beauty.
On our way back, we got off the rickshaw to just see the Salda gas field from outside. The entry is restricted. This is the 19th gas field in Bangladesh. According to the information received, gas is currently extracted from two places here. There are 200 million cubic feet of gas reserved. A little further on, a memorial to the Kasba Salda river battle was seen. Brahmanbaria had an important contribution to the war of liberation. Then we went to Laxmipur and Akhaura. We visited many tombs there. The tombs are kept clean and tidy. An archway has also been constructed at the front entrance.
Brahmanbaria is enriched with the significant memories of the liberation war. Besides, for tourists, it is mandatory to have ‘Chanamukhi’ the popular sweetmeat of this district. I left the place and went to the bus stand and left for Dhaka. With this, our goal of setting foot in 64 districts was fulfilled. We only set foot, Couldn’t finish seeing everything. Now I want to explore more places in Bangladesh that I haven’t seen yet to write a new story.
