How To Make: Cholar Daler Halua

“Cholar Daler Halua”, is a homemade sweet-Meat, that is eaten traditionally in all seasons in almost every region in Bangladesh. It’s also referred to as ‘Barfi’ and served as desserts on all occasions, festivals and luxurious hotels. The recipe for this delicious sweet meat is simple and doesn’t require special culinary skills. 

This delicate dessert can be prepared with the following steps:

Ingredients:      

1.    1.5 cup chickpea.

2.    1.5 cups hot water.

3.    100 gm Cashew Nut

4.    4 pieces of black pepper

5.    1 piece of silver paper

6.    50 gm of Raisins

7.    5 pieces of Cardamom

8.    4 teaspoons of pure Ghee

9.    100 gm coconut powder

10.    ½ cup of sugar/brown sugar

11.    Cinnamon

12.    1 cup of milk

13.    Bay leaf

14.    Hot spices

15.    Turmeric powder

16.    ½ cup oil

17.    ¼ teaspoon salt

Preparation:

  • First, Clean and wash the dal and soak it well in water for 6-7 hours.
  • Then let it boil until lightly soft and all the water has dried up.
  • After that, stop boiling and keep grinding the soft dal with milk.
  • After heating the ghee with oil in a nonstick pan, add the grounded dal, hot spices, coconut powder, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom, salt and bay leaf.
  • Then Keep stirring with a ladle until the mixture becomes thick 
  • Add some milk, sugar and turmeric powder and keep stirring until the mixture leaves the sides of the pan. 
  • Subsequently, remove the whole garam masala from the halwa and transfer it to a greased plate or silver paper.
  • Press the halwa evenly with a spoon and let it cool, 
  • Finally, add extra ingredients such as raisins, cashew nuts etc. and slice it into required pieces.

Notes:

  • Don’t cook the halwa for more time, otherwise, it will become as hard as rubber.
  • You can use some orange food colour instead of turmeric powder.
