Traditional Khichuri hobe

Achari Chicken is a chicken curry made with achaar (pickle) as the main ingredient along with the chicken. It’s basically a North Indian Dish, a combination of chicken and pickling spices. This curry can be made with any type of pickle but mango and olive are very popular as their tonic. Achari Chicken is a very famous dish in Bangladesh.

People love to eat Achari Chicken during winter because cold weather is the right time to enjoy spicy and hot food. It goes very well with naan, tandoori roti, parathas, roomali roti, basmati rice or jeera rice. This dish is not only delicious but also good for your health. It’s providing protein, sodium, potassium, fibre, sugar, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron for our body. People of all ages love Achari Chicken because of its aroma and tangy flavour. This super delicious dish is also very easy to cook. 

Ingredients: 

  1. ½ kg chicken pieces 
  2. 1 tsp lime juice
  3. Salt (as per taste)
  4. 4 tbsp mustard oil or cooking oil (mustard oil increases the taste)
  5. ½ tsp panchforon (Bengali five spices)
  6. 2 large onion
  7. 2 Bay leaf
  8. 2 Small cinnamon sticks
  9. 5 Cardamom
  10. 7 cloves
  11. 1 tsp garlic paste
  12. ½ tsp ginger paste
  13. 2 small tomatoes (optional)
  14. 1 tsp coriander 
  15. 1 tsp red chilli 
  16. ½ tsp turmeric
  17. 1 tsp cumin
  18. 3 tbsp beaten yoghurt + 1 tsp sugar (mixed)
  19. 5 pieces garlic
  20. ½ tsp garam masala
  21. 5 green chillies
  22. Water

Instructions:

First, we have to marinate the chicken with salt and lime juice for 20 minutes. Then heat the pan and drizzle cooking oil or mustard oil in the pen. Now we have to add five spices, and sliced onions and sauté until soft. After that, add bay leaf, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, and cloves and fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Now add diced tomatoes, garlic and ginger paste, salt, coriander, red chilli turmeric and cumin. Need to sauté it for 4-5 minutes. Add chicken pieces and achar (pickle) in it and fry for 6 minutes on high heat. Stir in the sugar yoghurt mixture. Add garam masala and garlic. Cook for another 15 minutes on low heat with the lid on. At the last minute add green chillies and be ready to enjoy this delicious dish.
