As a Bengali, we all pretty much love biryani, Tehari, Pulao etc. Personally, I love Tehari more for some reason. I tried different kinds of biryani, Tehari from famous restaurants but there is this one Tehari that will always remain memorable to me. It is the “Akhni Tehari” which is mostly found in Sylhet and Chittagong.
I had the opportunity to visit Sylhet after my 3rd-year final exams. There we tried different types of food items. We enjoyed the food as much as we enjoyed the natural beauty of Sylhet.
We had “Akhni Tehari” at Panshi Restaurant, Sylhet. It is one of the most renowned dishes of Panshi. It is situated at Jallar par road Zindabazar, Sylhet city 3100. With a wide sitting arrangement and great interior, Panshi Restaurant easily attracts local customers and tourists.
Akhni Tehari is made by mixing Pulao rice with cooking oil, ghee, meat, traditional spices, chilli pepper, sour yoghurt etc. Sometimes vegetables, fruits, nuts or eggs are used. If I was to describe the taste then “Akhni Tehari” tastes uniquely delicious. When it was served hot on a plate, the aroma just spread everywhere. Also, it looked absolutely mouthwatering. They even served a special “Alu Bokharar Chutney”.
It was a great experience having “Akhni Tehari” at Panshi Restaurant with my family. As the environment of the restaurant was pleasant, we felt comfortable and enjoyed ourselves. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Sylhet to try this dish for a different kind of Biyani or Tehari taste.
