Taco: A Roll of Flavours

Taco is basically a conventional Mexican food that consists of a wheat tortilla or soft corn that is rolled and topped with a mixture. The mixture can be filled with multiple fillings which include chicken, beef, seafood and vegetables allowing different tastes and flavours. Besides, the fillings are often embellished with different gravies such as salsa, sour cream or garlic sauce. Vegetables like lettuce, onions and tomatoes are also added to the fillings. Though taco originally belongs to Mexican street foods, it has already spread all over the world being a tasty finger food.

Tacos originated in Mexico back in the 19th century. Although it is hard to identify when the first taco was conceived, Professor Jeffrey M. Pilcher at the University of Minnesota suspects that the taco comes from Mexican silver miners, who likely were the first to invent such an expedient dish. On the other hand, the taco was put in the USA in 1905 and the interesting part is the Mexican migrants who came to work on railroads and other professions brought their traditional food with them. Thus, tacos were getting famous as a tasty street food being portable and cheap and now it’s a go-to food for Americans and they don’t mind consuming it as a breakfast or a snack.

Tacos are so flavourful

Taco is really a handy food that can be easily made in your kitchen just by having a few condiments according to your choice. You have to make sure to prepare a perfect tortilla for getting your desired taco and then you have to fill it with protein or vegetables consisting of flavour and acid. The acid is needed to balance the other ingredients like fat. There are three types of taco carnitas, carne asada and al pastor. Traditionally it is garnished with chopped onions and lime is used on the side for seasoning. The taste of the consumers demands this. To make a Carne asada, you may go with a layer of beef mixture, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes in each taco shell served with salsa; top with sour cream. For vegans, it can be a tasty dish too by having vegetables as their preference.

Taco can be a good source of protein and fibre but there are some ingredients or supplementary items which may extremely expand the value of calories and amounts of fat and salt and this is mainly true of tacos which we usually get from typical restaurants. However, tacos can be healthy by cutting carbs. People may also lose weight by using fresh and nutritious ingredients for a suitable addition to any diet plan.
