Chicken Jhal fry is a mixture of spices and flavours. It can be made with everyday ingredients. To make this dish you need to follow two basic steps.
For Marination:
- Chicken- 1 kg
- Lime juice- 1 tsp
- Red chilli- 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric- 1/2 tsp
- Salt- 1/2 tsp
For Gravy:
- Fried onions- 1/2 cup
- Onion paste- 1/4 cup
- Garlic paste- 1 tsp
- Ginger paste- 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder- 1 and 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
- Turmeric- 1/2 tsp
- Salt (to taste)
- Water- 1.5 cups
- Cooking oil- 1/2 cup
- Ketchup (Tomato)- 3 tbsp
- Black or white pepper- 1/2 tsp
- Roasted cumin powder- 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala- 1/2 tsp
- Green chilli- 4-5 pcs
Firstly, marinate the chicken in a bowl with red chilli powder, turmeric, salt, and lime juice for 10 to 15 minutes. Then heat the oil in a pan, and fry the marinated chicken. After frying, take the fried chicken out of the pan. In the same pan, add onions and fry them until brown. Add the garam masala, garlic and ginger paste, onion paste and other spices as well. Then add the fried chicken to the pan and add tomato ketchup. Add water and cook it for some more time. In the end, add green chilli and roasted cumin powder. Spread the fried onions over it. You can serve it with rice, roti or naan.
